Enough is enough. Eric Holder said “when they go low kick the crap out of them”. Hope he is our next AG.

How “politically correct” Garland got us here. Never again.

Mitchell Sledge's avatar

Don't forget Mitch Turtle man McConnell and the role he played in getting us here. Also those, hiding in the background with their donations! SHAMEFUL!

Mike Hammer's avatar

💯. Mitch McConnell and justice Roberts brought us here.

chris lemon's avatar

Murdoch, one of the heads of the snake with many heads.

Kristin's avatar

💯 I also feel SCOTUS had a hand in this back in 2012 with Citizens United which essential changed the rules of Corp donations - aka bribes, aka purchase the outcome 🤬I sometimes wonder if that was the end result of having a black president. How pathetically sad.

paulahik's avatar

SCROTUM needs to go, too.

Yes, I think it was at least partially backlash for having a black president. FYI - Hawaii just outlawed Citizens United. It is being challenged in court of course. I pray they succeed. All states need to do the same.

Kristin's avatar

I just read that!! “Hawaii just took one of those powers off the list—starting next year, corporations in Hawaii can no longer spend money on state and local elections.”

Bravo Hawaii!!

James Byham's avatar

Oh yeah, Obama drives the Confederate wingnuts completely bezonkers !

Real Apprentice's avatar

Citizens United was the moment SCOTUS basically looked at American politics and said, “What if billionaires had even more influence, but we called it free speech so it sounded classy?”

Dawna Stromsoe's avatar

I’m actually hoping Jack Smith is our next AG.

Same thing tho…ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Mike Hammer's avatar

Of course, he’s great as well but think how delicious it would be to have all these white people prosecuted by a black man.

Kristin's avatar

OMG me too!!! Jack Smith - he’s got the receipts!!

Christina's avatar

Jack Smith passed away a month or so ago. 🙄

Cheryll Darby's avatar

I think you’re thinking of Robert Mueller. Jack Smith is still alive.

Christina's avatar

You are right. I'm sorry for my mistake.

Toxtli Melloh's avatar

Yes, Holder is part of the system.

Mike Hammer's avatar

He’s been fighting for our rights constantly. What is your issue with him, exactly?

My BLOOD IS BOILING 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬!! Capitol Police should be reorganized & given Authority to Arrest & Hold THE LAWLESS GOP WHO ARE BEHOLDEN TO TRUMP INCLUDING tRumpf, that regime called a cabinet and every damn j6 criminal with every other person who pled guilty to their crimes who was not pressured by dirty cops that he pardoned !! And don’t announce it !! Just do it damn it !!

Ben Wasserman's avatar

Well it's going to have to be again if you plan on winning the Midterms and Presidency. Then we can push forward with the arrests.

A\/8R's avatar

I agree. I think Biden did a lot of good things, but for all of his good, I’ll never forgive him for his inability to recognize just how dangerous the Republican Party actually is.

I even wonder if members of his own cabinet weren’t misleading Biden deliberately in the end. Especially now that we’re hearing the John Kerry might actually have been involved with Epstein.

Biden is a good man, yet notoriously naive, over estimating his own bridge building ability.

In another time he truly was able to reach across the aisle, but as he aged, so did his instincts about people. Yes I know he was able to pass bills but even then, we still had some honest republicans in congress. There’s no building bridges with true sociopaths. The fact that he thought someone as dangerous as Trump, a true psychopath, would just dissolve, is astonishing. Merrick Garland being a member of the Federalist Society, and KNOWN for taking entirely too long to rule on cases as a Judge, was the LAST person Biden should’ve picked. I agree with Bryan… The Democratic Party needs its representatives to start thinking like Generals, not Politicians.

BLUE STATES should already have a backup plan in place.

James Byham's avatar

Dither , dither , oh gosh the trumpers have run out the clock !

We will have to fight republiturds on their own slimy terms or be steamrolled into oblivion.

Torrance Stephens's avatar

All SCOTUS ruling says is that states cannot redistrict by skin color. Funny, now the likely winner of the TN-9th will be a black republican woman. All the SCOTUS ruling says is that states cannot redistrict by skin color.

My, how racism has evolved

majorfathead's avatar

This is indeed a bridge too far. The dems need to get off their high horses and down in the mud. Jfc this is getting ridiculous.

Kit Minden's avatar

You are really rude, and I'm really tired of it. You don't know what we are doing as individuals you don't know what we are doing in our neighborhoods. You have a good name for yourself. I don't have a problem with standing up to people but they do have a problem with being just as rude to my neighbors as other neighbors want to be. We can be civil and still be tough and strong and stand up to these ill-informed conservatives. So ask the right people this morning on the radio on PBS I was listening to people saying no more when they go, low we go high! That was Michelle Obama's saying not any politician that I heard. And who was she talking to? Kids moms not really to the politicians.

JCOK's avatar

Please tell what they should have done differently to deal with the prohibition against redistricting in the VA Constitution. I’d really like to know.

Kathy Maynard's avatar

If the democrats who led the redistricting referendum in VA are not lawyers themselves, they should have gotten counsel to review the rules and make sure they complied with them. And they should have known republicans would jump on the slightest irregularities as a means to invalidate the results.

Declan's avatar

NOW?!! Just f*cking ignore the court & DO IT. Stop saying you respect their opinion as the idiot House leader said. *Was it House?) He must take whimpy lessons from Jeffries

majorfathead's avatar

Correct me if im wrong but wasnt this a constitutional amendment? I'll admit im a little confused by the legalese and im not comfortable trying to undo this knot. It feels to me that they did it legally, but I could be wrong.

Ben Wasserman's avatar

No. You told them for decades not to get in the mud with the pig because only the pig enjoys. They're not going to unlearn those lessons.

Deb's avatar

Democrats are working their ass off and still it’s not good enough for some.. I say thank you for doing what you can in a corrupt country run by republicans!!!

Declan's avatar

Dumbocrats don't work hard. Why isn't the leadership out there EVERY DAY for 30 minutes doin a show & tell on horrors the regime is doing & what they're gonna do in fighting back.

Deb's avatar

Watch ms now they are reporting about it daily and how so many people in the states are out there telling their legislators they expect them to vote for the people. Problem is if republicans are on the majority BLAME them and vote them out .. or do what they want you to do stay home moaning about democrats. Then they win….

Me Always's avatar

What, exactly, are YOU doing. Unless you’re “out there every day for 30 minutes” and “fighting back”, keep your opinions to yourself. I’m assuming your Democrat; if not, fuck off!

BenG's avatar

Oh, please. They’re not doing shit. They’ve had a decade to plan for this. They are fucking useless.

Deb's avatar

Your choice to vote so give your vote to your representative that does for you. Mine happen to be democrats…

Elijah’s Shadow's avatar

I envy you Deb. Unfortunately, I live in Ohio where two of the three Senators are Republican with Emilia Sykes being the only Dem, who by the way is the only one who gets back with me, when I have concerns. I’m praying that midterm will change that equation.

Deb's avatar

Dem Congress but my 2 senators are republicans and do nothing I agree with. Hoping Vindman will win against Ashley Moody( she was placed in her position by DeSantis) and up for election Nov. 26. The other is Rick Scott who is a Trump lackey and is useless!!!

BenG's avatar

good for you!

Mitchell Sledge's avatar

Wow, if you ever thought America was "post Racial", well now you know! Again you cannot take a knife to a gun fight. The "high and mighty" tac the Democrats were (hopeful) taking was just 'kicked in the private parts' by the Republicans. Today starts the real fight for America, and we will see where this goes. It is a downright travesty that the Supreme Court paved the way for the states houses to show their TRUE colors. What a time to be a descendent of the people who fought so hard and DIED for representation during the civil rights era. I hope no pray, we can find our way back! All Americans of ALL colors need to help reverse this madness. And we go into our 250th year with this heavy yolk around our necks!

20 -40 of the smartest of the smart

And come up with a plan!!!

We are screwed for the next 10-15 but what about after that???

Please tell how Virginia Dems should have dealt differently with the prohibition against redistricting in the VA Constitution. I’d really like to know.

ess0h's avatar

The issue is that they passed the independent commission in the first place. How the hell did democrats ever think republicans would vote for a national gerrymandering ban if they kept voluntarily castrating themselves.

JCOK's avatar
May 9Edited

This article is nonsensical. Virginia Dems stepped up and did everything they could. The VA state Constitution was the problem. They had to amend it. Virginia Dems went for the most aggressive path in that regard. Four GOP justices shot it down.

The article makes no sense. We should be praising Virginia Dems for doing what they did.

Lynda Klodt's avatar

I'm praising Democrats for what they attempted to do. Now, take the gloves off and fight fire with fire 🔥

Republicans MAKE UP RULES to fit whatever it is that they want to do. Or IGNORE any laws they do NOT agree with. Republicans do NOT give a DAMN about the law says! They either just IGNORE it or MAKE UP one to fit what they want. Example - Mitch (1) We CANNOT have a new justice during an election and must wait until after the election (2) We MUST appoint a new justice right now! Or another "local control". For years Republicans have howled about "local control". And NOW they are passing laws to Preempt "local control" and saying you CANNOT pass a local law that violates what we say. "You can never get justice in a world where criminals make the rules" Bob Marley. "The people" mean NOTHING to the Republicans. They just USE "the people" to ABUSE "the people" to get what they want. And THEN SCREW the people. Example - About to go into effect AFTER the midterm elections - the SCREWING of Americans ALL across America by the Republicans Big BS Bill. And it is GOING to SCREW even the people who voted for Trump! Especially people who voted for Trump. But it will HELP the Billionaires that are behind the funding of Trump and Republicans ALL ACROSS America running for office. This courtesy of the MAGA Racist KKK White Nationalist Roberts 6, which includes a Black Man - Clarence Thomas! They are driving America to become a country like Apartheid South Africa and the Confederate States of America (who have been waiting to do this since the Civil War) where people of color will have NO voice in the affairs of where they live. Just rule by White Men. The fix? MASSIVE VOTER TURNOUT (like just happened to Orban in Hungary) and VOTE them ALL OUT OF OFFICE! And THEN hold them ALL Accountable! Every single one of them from Trump on down..........

Hey Bryan, you were on ABC World News with David Muir tonight. They gave you props for your reporting and quoted you, even showed your profile pic. Lol. You are making a difference. I know the work you do is hard and harder still because you are so dedicated to truth, integrity and exposing what isn't! That's so refreshing and gives us hope. Keep doing what your doing. Despite all the negativity and shameless disregard for justice and honor, I believe that with you and the others telling truth in the independent news network, we are going to make it. The take-down is coming. Truth will prevail. Believe!

Patrick Lovell's avatar

BTC is right on, and has been for at least the last five years!

The authoritarian white Christian nationalist Republican so-called party is playing for keeps and has been since Reagan!

They are not going to play by the rules or law, and if Democrats don't wake up and start standing up to this shit, there is not going to be anything left to grapple over!

Please tell what Virginia Dems should have done differently. I would really like to know how they should have dealt with the VA Constitution.

Kit Minden's avatar

I see a lot of the problem as Namby pambi Republicans who don't know how to follow the law and stand up when they are required to they have allowed that Trump to walk all over them and all of us. But I know they went to school they have law degrees most of them. They know how to make the world work and they chose not to they chose to bow down to an idiot with dementia called Donald Trump

Patrick Lovell's avatar

According to the Virginia Supreme Court, the referendum conflicted with pre-voting for primaries, which had just begun.

The governor could have cancelled the primary altogether, as the governor in Louisiana did, then put the referendum out.

Of course, the Republicans, hypocrites that they are, would have screamed bloody murder, but they were going to do that in any case.

Unlike in every redistricted state overseen by Republicans, Virginia put a referendum to the people as was done in California.

For far too many years, Democrats have not done the work needed on the local level - in school boards, city, and state elections, and the courts - and have therefore allowed the fanatical wing of the Republican Party to take control. Republicans only like elections that they have rigged to win because they know if the playing field were level, they would lose.

And it is not only up to the Democrats; we, the people, should be on the streets every day demanding that all parties play by the rules and law.

Republicans know, however, that the average American is easy to gaslight and suck up their lies!

That has to change!

JCOK's avatar

They had to do a referendum to amend the Constitution. This was the only option. They did it.

Also, I hope that’s everyone here—and not just you—who have been screaming about how “Democrats should have not this” or “Democrats should have done that” include themselves in the definition of “Democrats”. It’s up to us.

Patrick Lovell's avatar

A lower court said that the referendum to redistrict violated the constitution and did not say the constitution had to be changed to hold a referendum to redistrict. This ruling came from a lower district court that has a right leaning judge which goes to my point that not paying attention to the local grassroots level of politics has consequences.

You don’t know me, as I am a nobody, but I have been screaming for more activist involvement by progressives on the local level for years, and I do include myself. People have, however, been complacent, ill-informed, or just plain wilfully ignorant about how our government works, while the right wing has taken advantage, and encouraged this ignorance while they waltzed in and took control. This has been going on for years and is only now reaching the level where it is being felt on a national level. They are not going to stop now, and the question is not what should have been done, it what are we going to do now!

And you are correct, it is up to us!

Kit Minden's avatar

I live in Virginia. I am a liberal. I am a Democrat. I believe that our votes should have been counted. I believe the Supreme Court of our state is wrong. I also have a lot of neighbors who are conservative Republican and afraid of migrants and the Liberals in general and specifically. There is a constant arguing here over who is right or wrong so many people have their ears plugged and their eyes covered and don't listen or see a thing. But please be careful about it counting all of us out because a lot of us are here and doing all we can.

Jenifer Flynn's avatar

California HAD a redistricting referendum vote, just like Virginia!!! I think the Virginia Supreme Court is just more conservative, and would look to invalidate the redistricting DESPITE the vote showing the will of the citizens of VA. SCOTUS now is doing the same sort of gutting of the Voting Rights Act. Yes Dems do need to fight harder, but I think some democratic process was warranted, and yet still the VA Supreme Court chose to thwart the clear majority of VA voters.....there is a systemic problem here, power politics TRUMPING valid democratic initiatives. I don't think the problem here was Virginia "following the rules" but rather, as with SCOTUS, the conservative Va court ignoring the democratic process that expressed the will of VA citizens.

I have the Ukraine attitude towards this situation. The Republicans are winning battles, but they can't win the war until we stop fighting. They may have a lot of money, but if we keep fighting they will lose interest as the money it costs them to steal elections gets too high. They can gerrymander the House, but not the White House or the Senate. So now they have to spend a fortune to try to hold the Senate. Just keep fighting Brian. Keep fighting as hard as you can, but I think you will win the war and Trump will lose. I'm with you and their numbers are fading.

Keep fighting!
