The courts are no longer a reliable firewall. Relying solely on judicial remedies assumes the system still honors neutrality, precedent, or public interest. That era is over.

Project 2025, Schedule F, and the purging of civil servants aren’t just policy ideas—they’re a hostile restructuring of governance. And while we file lawsuits, they stack courts, gut enforcement, and rewrite jurisdiction itself.

Yes, legal challenges matter. But we can’t litigate our way out of a revolution. The real battleground is local power, networked civic resilience, and mass noncompliance. If we want democracy to survive, we have to stop playing by rules the other side has already thrown away.

Start building: school boards, neighborhood defense funds, community media, sanctuary policies. Every delay strengthens their grip.

This isn’t politics as usual.

Need to look to historical analogs in history. Those who remain passive lose. Those who remain vigilant and fight like hell always have a good chance of winning. Education is key, and that's why they are attacking media, to keep the people uninformed as to the facts, and only let them hear tainted propaganda. It works in North Korea and Russia, and this is what they are doing here. Resist!

To learn what the strategy is - made 50 years in advance, watch my interview with David Daley, author of "Antidemocratic: The Far Right's 50 Year Plot to Control American Elections." I did the interview right before the election - and what he states about elections and C.J. John Roberts from decades ago, holds true more now than ever. A must watch historical anthology of the facts! https://thelegaledition.substack.com/p/interview-with-investigative-journalist

They have everything to lose if they can’t destroy free and fair elections in America.

The patriarchy is keeping them rich and powerful. And they have become accustomed and addicted to their depravities, which the GOP gladly funds.

If we can get the Congress back during the midterms and get the WH in 2028, we could make the necessary changes that will stop all of this from happening ever again. But it is up to us to take the government back under Democratic control to get it done. Get out there and register Independents and Democrats to vote next year, and don't stop after that. We will need every single vote we can get to have the supermajority we need to fix the problems Trump and the Repugs have created.

I believe it is going to take something more than just voting. If any of us stop and think for a moment how this all came to pass, it was from a stolen election, or manipulated election, or maneuvered election, or interfered election, or "bought" election. Repubs don't play fair. Trump never plays by the rules, he lies, he cheats, he schemes. The next Presidential Election will be the most important in the history of this Nation we call America. It will be a "do" or "die" election, for it will either be the return of democracy or the end of it. So what do we do now?

Leigh, never underestimate the power of the pen! Writing & communicating presents an opportunity for an exchange of ideas, and with ideas comes change.

Get Going? I'd love to get going! However, I'm nearly 75, in a wheelchair with one leg, and myriad health issues, which prevent me from "going." BUT - perhaps an idea that I write will inspire some younger person to "run with the ball," and that in itself would please me greatly. We are all in this mess together.

Reading Beth Winfrey's idea about voting struck a cord within me, and not a pleasant one.

For as long as I can remember, in childhood, EVERY Presidential Election was fraught with worries about an "honest" election, a "correct count" election, a "super duper correct re-count" election; AND after every election THEY would all say, "We've got to do something about these voting machines. We've got to do something to ensure a fair and honest election. Perhaps we need to return to paper ballots and hand counting." Nothing ever got done, nothing ever changed. And the all pervading question - How Do I Know My Vote Was Counted Correctly, Counted at all? still remained, remains today.

We are facing a situation now, where Trump is running amuck, the Supreme Court is tainted big time, Congress is useless, the Billionaires are completely lost in lust of greed and power, and half the country is totally blind to the destruction falling around our heads. Perhaps, we need to focus on the NEXT election, tackling the problems to ensure without doubt, that we have a fair and honest election.

I believe the days of computerized elections needs to hit the trash bin. Americans need to learn patience once again, where results are not instant, and may take days to come to fruition. We need a voting system where every American receives a timed, dated, signed by the counter, copy of their vote, who they voted for, where they voted, with correct photo ID and correct voter number, mailed to them - after it has been checked and re-checked and cross referenced for accuracy and validity. This is needed to stop votes from disappearing, like people...

Obviously we need change concerning our elections.

Who made the rule that voting time was so limited, results were needed asap? Let the process unfold, slow down, so every American is counted during a freedom we should never lose.

This supreme court is fully complicit in allowing placing Donald Trump into office and of executing Project 2025 and bending or re-structuring all our existing safeguards to entrench this coup as our 'Government'. SCOTUS has aided in creating this entire devastation to our country from start through today. NONE of us should be following SCOTUS at this point in time. This administration follows no rules, no laws, and SCOTUS has allowed them to run fully lawless against all of our Citizens in these United States of America. We have Zero reason to trust in any rulings that SCOTUS has made since they have allowed and aided this coup and are pushing our country to fully implement the takedown of our United States of America. SCOTUS is not working for the United States of America and certainly not our citizens. They do not defend our rights as Citizens of the United States, they do not follow the standing LAWS considering Human Rights for us all, and they are fully complicit in destroying our US Constitution. It is far past time for all of us to stop complying with the 'changes to our standing laws as they have continued to re-write and re-interpret' when this current administration has been completely allowed to disregard every law and SCOTUS has paved the way. SCOTUS has lost all credibility. They have disgraced the country and their mission to protect all here.

It seems that freedom, now is only for the privileged. It's utterly shameful how many willing participants there are, to turn their backs on the foundations of their own nation. There should be a lot of people ashamed of their betrayal of their country, and yet they expect loyalty from the military personnel. Why should other's be willing to lay their lives on the line to protect these people, when they are willing to do their damn jobs, and protect the citizens and the country alike. Anyone voting to remove the voting system, should be classed as committing treason.

My point is that, I agree with your statement. Freedom is no longer a constitutional given. It is no longer the land of the free for everyone. It is the land of the free to the über rich, or who meet the expected societal criteria, that matches Trumps vision for perfectionism, on his terms. He demands the ultimate in loyalty and capitulation. Even those voting MAGA, that have far-right leanings, are going to find that their sorry, white asses, aren't going to secure their freedom's any better either. They've served their purpose, been used, and have been cast aside. Freedom and democracy were the words for 2024, The words for 2025 are control and autocracy. Sadly for certain non-white sectors of society, the price of freedom is only to leave over a border or leave in a box. It's no longer a level playing field. Someone that should work for your interests, has flipped the table, and your survival depends on the interest you have to them, what you can provide to them or how much flattery you can give. Ofcourse, you still have to pay them for the privelage of being used. Freedom could well become an antique in the museum of retrospection.

Inasmuch as the Constitution allocates to the states the "The Times, Places and Manner" of holding elections under the "Elections Clause", Congress can in fact make changes in what the states can or cannot do regarding setting, e.g., Congressional districting, but rarely have done so directly except for the VRA most recently. But Scotus has taken a hammer to the latter, and has stated that even the most abusive of gerrymandering is a "political question", and until Congress acts, we get what we get — see TX!

Problem is, a supermajority is required in the Senate, and a Dem majority in the House PLUS a Dem president in order to pass any No-gerrymandering/one person-one vote legislation...and how far into the future is THAT scenario?

Options to retain our democracy dwindle each day, with SCOTUS continuing to grease our slide into autocracy. Betting that there will be fair midterms -- much less midterms at all -- is a long shot.
