Donald Trump and Pam Bondi just coordinated to con their own base into thinking that they’re seeking transparency with regard to Epstein, when in fact they are doing the polar opposite.
We can all agree that the calls to release the Epstein files have hit a fever pitch. Trump can’t escape it. He’s dissembling. His always-successful strategy of manipulating the media is falling flat for the first time ever. His excuses are all over the place, ranging from saying that the files don’t exist to claiming that they do exist but they’re fakes forged by Obama. And so clearly, he needed something to take the heat off of himself. He needed to buy himself time.
Enter: Pam Bondi.
Trump and Bondi strike up a definitely, totally organic interaction online, wherein takes to Truth Social and says:
To which Pam Bondi replies:
They’re cosplaying as being transparent, but the only thing that’s transparent here is the obfuscation effort. Pam Bondi, as attorney general, already has access to the thousands upon thousands of materials contained within the Epstein files. They’re available to her if she wants to release them. But she knows that she can’t because, clearly, Trump is implicated in the files. And so instead, she’s pretending that the real treasures are the grand jury testimonies.
So let’s talk about the grand jury testimonies.
First of all, those testimonies are only a small fraction of what’s contained within the broader files— perhaps five to ten percent. Second, as part of the initial investigation, all of those testimonies get summarized, and those summaries are included in the file. So Bondi already knows, more or less, what all of the testimonies say. And third, those testimonies are only related to the crimes of the two people who were convicted in their corresponding trials: Epstein and Maxwell. We don’t need to know about their culpability; one is dead and the other is in prison. We need the materials implicating the other people - their clients - which of course the grand jury testimonies won’t tell us— but that’s the point. Trump and Bondi don’t actually want us to have insight into that information; they expressly don’t want us to see it. So instead, they’re sending us on a wild goose chase, running after something that we never asked for. We don’t need the grand jury testimonies that incriminate a dead guy and his incarcerated partner. But that’s what Trump and Bondi are making a big show of giving us because they need to knock everyone off the scent and buy themselves some time.
It’s becoming increasingly clear that the sole goal of this administration is to prevent the release of these files, which is why Trump has leaned on Republicans in Congress to block the release of the files five times (twice in the Rules Committee, twice on the House floor, and once on the Senate floor). It’s why Trump conspired with Pam Bondi to cook up this plan to pivot to grand jury testimonies instead of releasing the information she already has at her disposal. If Trump was orchestrating a cover up, there is quite literally nothing he would do differently than what he’s doing right now.
My question for Trump supporters is this: what’s the goal? Is it pure tribalism and protecting the leader of the Republican Party at all costs? Or is it full transparency about what happened with Epstein and accountability for everyone involved. Because you can have one or the other, but clearly not both.
No one has asked for Grand Jury testimony. We all want to see the client list and all the EVIDENCE that was in the files that were on Blondi’s desk. Hopefully, they haven’t been destroyed.
Yes, we want the files, not the grand jury testimony . Everyone knows Trump is in there, we want to know who else is implicated.
