It's heartbreaking that it's an abstract attack on the Fed Chair that is getting the Rs to speak out and not the ICE thugs bullying our citizenry in their own neighborhoods with lethal weaponry and lethal follow throughs. Whatta country.

ME's avatar

Always. A country of pimps and prostitutes at the highest levels.

ME's avatar

The best of the worst!

Hiring thugs like ICE to attack citizens and noncitizens alike while lying about it.

Laura Haule's avatar

I get what you are saying, and I think the more evidence of evil and misdeeds the better. Whatever works...There is something to alarm everyone in this administration. I live in Minneapolis, and I am nervous and angry. ICE was looking for people in the block north of my daughter's house not far from me. Children are terrorized by this, any children, it is beyond the pale. It is disrupting businesses in the cities, people are afraid to go to work, afraid to grocery shop. Hatred is bad but this effort is vile, vicious, and infernal. I remind myself an accounting will come.

It's awful living through that. The fact that state governors have allowed ICE to blatantly violate the Constitution by assaulting, bullying, trespassing, kidnapping, and killing while masked and unidentifiable as verified LE for almost a year? a year? and have done very little to push back despite being able to activate the National Guard is beyond infuriating.

Minneapolis should be littered with Don't Tread On Me flags and banners.

I don't think there will be much if any accountability in the end. And the quantity of Trumpers who support and get off on ICE's shthole-country activities is disgusting.

Kathy Hughes's avatar

State governors have not allowed it, federalism allows Trump and Noem to impose it on them.

Sandra's avatar

It might be what project 2025 wants, the governors put national guard in the streets it makes everywhere look like a militarized zone. Makes people more uneasy. Hard to say what percentage of each state's NG are MAGA. If Trump federalizes them while they are deployed and makes them help ICE instead of protecting citizenry, you've got a problem. And you will likely say he can't do that but he has done all kinds of illegal things through his crooked DOJ. Plus Fox News is still fervently spewing extreme right propaganda that is still successfully reaching impressionable ears. I can see where the governors would want to tread carefully. The delay in their actions may be related to the deep and extensive legal advice that is needed. What if Trump sends military against NG?? Be assured the craziest thing you cannot think of is what Trump, Miller, and Vought ARE thinking of.

ME's avatar

I bet even Trump would think twice (or whatever he does to approximate thinking, sense twice?) before sending in the US military against armed soldiers in the Guard.

And Minneapolis is long past uneasy. ICE has taken over their streets and even homes, denying them the right to travel safely on their own streets (even to and from church!) or to be safe within their own homes.

Sandra's avatar

I have heard that ICE is doing home invasions and church invasions on the ground in Minneapolis. Right after JD Vance spoke of door to door action. Definitely a secret police with no accountability and the only goal to ratchet up cruelty. That Republicans supported the astronomical budget directly to ICE and are now towing the line on the FBI preventing investigation of murder, definitely proves how deeply the infiltration of that party has been with gangster crookedness.

Sandra's avatar

I am saying I understand a bit of hesitation. The plan has to include how to outmaneuver evil at its own game of insanity. But of course the governors will have to come up with some sort of bold unpredictable and decisive surprise action pretty soon.

State governors could activate the National Guard to protect the citizens of their state, as Walz says he's on standby to do after Good's murder but still hasn't.

Prior to a regular training exercise in Texas, Abbott activated the State Guard to protect its addled masses from what would've been Obama's military takeover of the state:

"[Abbott asked] the Texas State Guard to monitor Operation Jade Helm from start to finish.

"It is important that Texans know their safety, constitutional rights, private property rights and civil liberties will not be infringed upon," Abbott said.

https://www.npr.org/sections/itsallpolitics/2015/05/02/403865824/texas-governor-deploys-state-guard-to-stave-off-obama-takeover

Kathy Hughes's avatar

The Jade Helm exercise was real, but Abbott’s reaction to it was hysterical. He seems to have fallen for Putin’s disinformation.

ME's avatar

Abbott's reaction was politically and psychopathically astute: He gave his Crazies' paranoias legitimacy.

Jaye Sors's avatar

They’re using the Nazi playbook and they’re backed by a corrupt Supreme Court by almost every Republican on almost every issue. Because he doesn’t play by any rules, the governors are having a really difficult time to figure out where to be to protect their citizens. The military has taken away their control in their rights. The Supreme Court should’ve stopped this when it started. Or the Republicans could have. It was illegal to begin with.

ME's avatar

Governors could meet other state and local leaders and with their LE, including State/National Guard to monitor ICE. If Ukraine while at war can develop drones to inflict heavy damage, our state agencies can figure out how to get and use drones to monitor ICE. They don’t have to rely on civilians risking their lives with many fewer resources.

Barbara Dillard's avatar

The governor said there is more of them than there is police officers so that makes it kind of hard

ME's avatar

That's why he and other governors need to activate the National Guard

Steven's avatar

ICE is effectively the paramilitary wing of the Trump administration

Cécile Stelzer-Johnson's avatar

More like their Secret Police, actually

This is exactly what Trump and his administration want fear within the communities. Autocracy thrives on that. I am so sorry you all have to live with this. Stay strong.

Karren's avatar

Standing with you from Chicago. I understand. I’m with you…an accounting must come.

Mythery's avatar

Get together with some neighbours, buy bullhorns. Next, go to a gunrange and record different sessions of gunfire with your phones. When you hear of ICE in the neighborhood, contact one or two neighbors with bullhorns. Go outside your house and play the gunshots over the bullhorn (out of sight). Go check what the reactions of ICE were.

Mythery's avatar

Try this: buy a bullhorn, go to a gun range, record a couple of sessions of gunfire. When you here of ICE close by, go outside and play the recording over the bullhorn. After, check to see what reactions ICE had.

Judy Sherwood's avatar

I hope you're right, Laura. Reckoning sooner, rather than later. So much damage already. Hard to comprehend how much more is in the future. Tillis is finally stepping up. Maybe this is the beginning of the end? Dear god, I hope so.

Barbara Salsgiver's avatar

That’s because they fear how this affects them and their financial stability in the long run, and they simply don’t feel the anguish of the loss of a young mother - a progressive - the way they feel something they perceive as directly impacting them. Pathetic

ME's avatar
Jan 13Edited

Oh, it's much bigger than Ms. Good. Apparently ICE has been swarming Minneapolis neighborhoods since early December, bullying and letting them know who's boss on their own streets and outside-inside their own homes, per the Constitution.

Trump 1.0 was furious when his orders to shoot BLM protestors weren't followed. He asked if they could at least be shot in the legs. No, he was told. Ol' Boss Hogg didn't forget.

Laura Haule's avatar

Yes, that is definitely part of it.

A strong case can be made for the ignorance of Americans in general but their ignorance of history is indisputable.

Anyone who lived through or studied the corruption around Watergate knows that if you want to understand what is happening here, just “follow the money“!

The GOP and their spineless enablers are OK with funding a paramilitary force that is disappearing and killing Americans on our streets, and seem fine supporting a masked federal thug calling a protester a “fucking bitch“ before shooting her in the face three times, and are OK with a felon-president breaking the law from stealing state secrets to fermenting insurrection, and violating the Constitution.

Their silence when he pardons drug dealers, money launderers, insurrectionists, cop killers, and hiding pedophiles (of which is is probably one of), makes them complicent.

But don’t touch our ability to fleece the American people by taking away their health care - paltry as it was - and giving billions to the wealthy in turn for campaign donations and envelopes of cash.

The health, freedom, and welfare of all Americans means nothing to these Republicans. Their values begin and end with cash!

They can all go to Hell!

"Get back, Bitch" is another ICE favorite. They're every bit the crass brutes Trump-Miller want them to be.

Agree, like I stated previously, you'd have to be grossly impaired to not know that the creep in the White House was doing illegal things and over-stepping his bounds of authority. Congress also endorsed the judges in the SCOTUS, we didn't, and this us what happens. They gave a monster immunity. 47 more of his fielty network have been charged with fraud in doing his bidding. Maybe one of them will squeal to avoid jail. So sad that it took this long for even just a couple of our representatives to notice something was wrong

Nancy Owens's avatar

I think they noticed a long time ago, they knew a long time ago also. But no one wants to or dares to be the squeaky wheel now. Not during this time of mob like rule. They don't gain anything for speaking out, in fact they lose for speaking out. Most of our "once upon a time" so called courageous leaders step quietly around DC with their coat collars pulled up high and their hats pulled down low, hoping to make it through another day, not being noticed, not being relevant. It's become a city full of cowards. It's a painful, shameful thing to view.

They act as though they (GOP) got nothing to lose. Perhaps they don’t think there will be a day of reckoning. Do they think history will remember them as heroes? But they bought the lie, drank the poison cool aid, listened to propaganda and now many hate. Some say they are Christians: meaning that they aspire to being Christ-like. You have bought shame on Jesus and hatred for the Bible! Thankfully, I have heard many say these are not real Christians even though they are not believers themselves. Non-believers don’t buy the meanness, cruelty, and hatred as normal for Christians. But some do. Some think the Bible encourages racism, hatred, and physical violence. There is a cost and it is this perception of Another Christianity. The reckoning has begun.

Thanks. I looked it up. Our legislators don’t have town halls or if they do it’s in towns that are definitely conservative. I have been saying on Threads marching isn’t enough. He said boycott businesses that support Trump. I can easily contact my legislators but they don’t respond, but I will do that.

M Jo.'s avatar

I'm boycotting like many others. Home Depot because they allow ICE to endanger people on their properties; Amazon because of poor employee relations and poor business practices plus mega tax breaks; same with Walmart and Target on the tax breaks. The other thing is if you can't get out to protest, help make signs and banners, contribute to a cause that will help us fight these atrocities like a democracy network There are lawyers actively fighting many of Trump's rulings or inequity in voting rights across the nation.

Pacific Sher's avatar

Thank you! ✌🏻

Mike Turner is my representative in Congress. He’s too chicken to hold a town hall and thinks his opponents and critics are allied against him. We are only in the sense we have legitimate concerns about what this lawless government is doing in our name.

M Jo.'s avatar

He needs to be reminded that he won't keep his seat if his constituents vote him out. Plus he'll have the legacy of being a loser

Kathy Hughes's avatar

I agree Turner should be warned of this, but he has a safe seat because our Republican dominated General Assembly and Senate have gerrymandered the hell out of Ohio. That is why we have the likes of Gym Jordan serving in Congress. The best thing he ever did was to release Jack Smith’s testimony, and Jordan is enough of a Trump fluffer to think Smith’s testimony exonerates Trump. On the contrary, it shows Trump was the ringleader for his little insurrection on 1/6/2021. Smith was also smart enough to avoid discussing Volume 2 of his investigation, which has been sealed by the inexperienced Trump judge Aileen Cannon.
