I am just happy that in Canada our system of justice does not allow for politicians to interfere or direct prosecutions or the courts or the police. The justice system in Canada and the courts is completely separate from the political process.
On paper, it’s the same in the US. Unfortunately, nobody considered that there'd be an entire administration who simply IGNORED all checks & balances and barreled share with whatever they wanted.
WE TOLD THEM/You how it was going to unflod.. Hilary, Kamala, Rick Wilson etc etc etc. this is not a surprise in any way.. Project 2025 spelled it OUT in full detail and here we are..
I wish our country was like Canada…heck I wish I lived in Canada! I believe Canada has a parliamentary form of government, which seems to be much more effective in running a country!
Yet another reason why the American Revolution in hindsight is seen to be a horrible miscarriage -- we all could have been Canada now, if not for the hotheads and the poltroons and the schemers. The USA has sunk into a morass of stupidity and criminality while Canada shows an example of what we might have been, what we might have achieved. Not perfect, but still striving. And certainly not daily being reduced to barbarism and a threat to global peace.
It’s supposed to work that way here as well. Somehow, everybody is corrupt, and the president must be blackmailing most of them or they’re in the files ….because very few are willing to stand up to him… it’s totally not normal
Given the decades long onslaught and deviously detailed planning plus extreme dirty deeds that have occurred in US political structures, don't presume that Canada's system could withstand the same measure of concentrated attack. Our legislature is not creep free. Our parliamentary system is somewhat more resistant to intentional breaking of its checks and balances. The average education level on the street and appreciation of higher education is somewhat stronger here. Our social safety net is more fulsome. Our founding documents do not glorify gun ownership and enshrine the love of killing for power into the fabric of our everyday society. But it bears repeating, freedom isn't free. We have to take the phrase repeated in our anthem "stand on guard for thee," very literally. They have every intention of ruining us. The idea I gave heard spoken by a few parliamentarians that the Orange Menace will age out, is not the robust defense we need against the horrendous damage he can do before he goes. When your own political party is willing to accept en masse every level of criminality that the leader and his team can throw at it, then that severe rot can topple pretty much any structure. May we, as Canadians, learn well and not look away from what is occurring south of us.
Gerrymandering, as it is done in the States, has been illegal in Canada for many years. Election donations are highly regulated, well-capped, and must be from a human not a corporate entity. These measures have given our system some resistance over the years, but we must continue to guard them like our life depends on it.There have been murmurs about messing with it from some quarters. We cannot let our system be Americanized from within.
Great comment, you are obviously in the orange things crosshairs. Lardbutt going toes up won't help you either as the maga Republican party is FULL of mini trumpers.
That’s the way it used to be here as well. “No one is above the law,” was what we were always told. Any country could get someone like trump to manipulate and/or control elections.
I tend to agree with Sheryl Allen’s comment above.
While I applaud the integrity and courage it took to resign in protest, the problem is this leaves the positions open to be filled by more unqualified MAGA fascist sycophants and we have no recourse whatsoever to get qualified replacements. Slowly but surely they are removing, firing or forcing out the conscience and guardrail people leaving us unprotected and allowing them to steamroll their agenda without obstacles or oversight.
The One thing these resignation people must do now is scream from the rooftops and every news and media outlets about what is going on and why they are stepping down and working against it.
Yes, but the problem is that eventually, they will be outed by their principles. When they are asked to do something that they know is unlawful, or just immoral, and they have a hard time, or even decide to stay and fight having to do it, they’ll just be fired anyway. The quickest and easiest thing we can do is get these bastards out of office. Then, maybe, we can undo some of the damage that’s been done.
But those with a conscience, or even morals, will be few and far and only the scum of the earth will be accepting these positions to please their master.
All these resignations are very telling g but bad because the criminals have prosecutors waiting in line to take up the lead for the criminals and do rummy’s bidding! To me this is terrible the poor people are going to left with no one in their corner to help them ! I am horrified !!!!
Certainly not the Trumplican Traitors. They care about THEMSELVES, yet somehow think an obese crone nearly dead from Alzheimer's with a seething hatred of it's base will help them?
The Trump DOJ (which ONLY serves one man, and to think the DOJ used to work on real crime) is full of criminals themselves! By NOT Releasing the Epstein Files like they were supposed to do already - they, led by Pam Bondi, are in violation of the law and are Criminals! And what their "job" is, is to exact Revenge, Retribution, and Extortion on Trump's enemies and NOTHING else! Everyone in America must continue to Keep Receipts and evidence to use against these criminals for the Nuremberg trials to come.........
I hear you on the mix feeling part, but those attorneys have to do what’s best for themselves!!
Knowing that when this trump BS is said and done, their careers can be in jeopardy!! They are professionals and realize that siding with trump will not end well!!
Being on the wrong side of history will be monumental this time around with the amount of documentation available!
I agree with all of this. And as someone noted above, they are freed up to lead their own investigations once someone files a suit. A Class Action Suit would be appropriate.
I don't have mixed feelings about the resignations. It wasn't just in protest. They were refusing illegal orders. They did the right thing and chose to save their licenses and careers to return and fight another day.
Exactly. And when we get to the other side of this lawless, corrupt, and amoral administration, they will be heroes - while the MAGA replacements will be ruined. They are all doomed and just don't realize it yet. They are too shortsighted to understand the consequences of their actions, which will be severe indeed!
Glad that they all stood up and resigned. Don’t know the turn around time for those positions to be filled and yes that nagging scratch that those positions will be filled with sycophants. Don’t know if it will fall on deaf ears in Congress and this will be brought up when Bondi testifies in February. So much destruction it’s startling …
Either they resign or be fired for refusing to do the DOJ's dirty work for Dictator Don. If they stay, its doubtful they would ever again get a job for a reputable law firm. Catch 22. Here is yet one more reason why Dictator Don and his regime all need to be removed.
Thank you, Mr Cohen, for your reporting of these resignations.
It is of political value to know these persons' choices and actions, in so far as each such resignation affirms, at least in general ways, other American's concerns about what Trump et al are doing. Your commentary on these is another source of such affirmation.
The countless choices and actions of Trump et al to diminish the protection of our Constitution rule of law, including by his or their efforts to subvert operation of independent courts, are harming more and more Americans, and Americans are aware of how and from whom the harms are coming.
BEWARE AMERICA AND STAY ALERT. DON’T BE DISTRACTED.
THE CONTROLLING MILLIONAIRES MACHINE IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE DEMONSTRATIONS, IN FACT, THEY SEE THEM AS A DISTRACTION FROM ANYONE TALKING ABOUT THEIR MACHINE.
DISTRACTION, DISTRACTION IS THEIR MAGIC TECHNIQUE. WATCH THIS HAND WHILE YOU PICK YOUR POCKET WITH MY OTHER HAND.
GET ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT DEMONSTRATIONS AND NEVER DO ANYTHING TO DISRUPT MY MONEY-MAKING MACHINE.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THEIR MACHINE: IT HAS A LONG HISTORY IN OUR COUNTRY, STARTING WITH SLAVES AND SLAVE OWNERS, THEN MANUFACTURERS AND THEIR WORKERS, AND NOW WITH EXTREME WEALTH CONTROLLING OUR GOVERNMENT.
THIS MACHINE IS A MONEY-MAKING OPERATION THAT HAS A CIRCULAR LIFE; A PLACE THAT PRODUCES A PRODUCT- WHERE THEY PAY THEIR WORKERS A REGULATED SALARY- WHERE THE WORKERS SPEND THEIR MONEY BUYING PRODUCTS. IF THIS CYCLE IS BROKEN, THE WEALTHY LOSE THEIR WEALTH, AS IN THE CRASH OF 1929
WORKERS SPENDING THEIR SALARY IS A NECESSARY PART OF THIS MONEY-MACHINE CIRCLE. WE SPENDING OUR MONEY IS FUNDAMENTAL TO THE OPERATION OF THIS MACHINE.
THIS MACHINE HAS A NAME. DO YOU KNOW ITS NAME? IT IS CAPITALISM. THE OWNERS OF THESE MACHINES HAVE AN EXTENSIVE, LONG HISTORY OF BRAINWASHING US ABOUT THE NEED FOR THIS MACHINE AND HOW IT AFFORDS US THE CHANCE FOR THE AMERICAN DREAM, AND THAT IF WE CAN PULL OURSELVES UP BY OUR BOOTSTRAPS, WE CAN ALSO BE PART OF THIS EXCLUSIVE GROUP.
THIS IDEA IS CONSTANTLY SOLD TO US IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS, BOTH OVERTLY AND SUBVERTLY, IN WAYS WE DON'T NOTICE. THEY THINK OF A WAY TO SELL US A PRODUCT WHERE THEIR PROFIT IS ENORMOUS, AND WE BUY THE PRODUCT WITHOUT DISCRIMINATION. PICKETS OF THE INDIANA MIAMI GAME AT THE FIFTY-YARD LINE IS FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS, AND THEY ARE SOLD OUT.
AGAIN, DISTRACTION AWAY FROM US WANTING TO CHANGE THIS MACHINE IS IMPERATIVE. THEY HAVE A MACHINE THAT PROVIDES THEM WITH WEALTH, AND THEY WOULD DO WHAT IS NECESSARY TO PROTECT THEIR MACHINES. THEY, LIKE TRUMP, HAVE NO CONCERNS ABOUT THE WEALFARE OF US. WE ARE A MECHANISM FOR PRODUCING THEM WITH PROFIT
Mmm... These career attorneys, lawyers, and all the top administration in our government/democracy process that are pushing back against DT's dictatorial orders are great. But quitting, resigning, or just leaving and calling it a protest? This is exactly what this dictator wants you all to do. You should stay and fight. "STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS!" I know it's easier said than done. To the rest that are still in any aspect of our democratic government, please stay and "stand up for your rights."
If they stay and fight, i.e. refuse to do what they are being ordered to do, they will be fired. I suppose that leaves them with a case for wrongful dismissal.
My hope is that they will join one of the independent legal organisations fighting against this criminal regime.
One consolation is that the Drumpf lackeys in the DoJ don't exactly have a record of success.
Go point... Sue. Well, in their case of wrongful dismissal, they could fight it. But, under this dictator... EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US NEEDS TO STAND UP AND BE COUNTED! FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHTS. OR THIS DICTATOR WILL CONTINUE TO WIN. We can do this nonviolently... But, we have to do it all together and resist the best way we can. Again, maybe you have a point. 🤔
I do know a lot about the law, but my knowledge is mostly criminal law…. I would imagine though, that since these folks are federal employees, the wrongful dismissal suits would be in a federal court? I would imagine then that even if they did manage to find a lawyer to take their case, (because the attorney who represents himself has a fool for a client), there would also be a federal attorney defending the government’s position. Look at the cases like Garcia, Jonathan Ross, etc…. I understand these are quite different cases, but they can be used to illustrate my point.
Garcia was wrongfully deported, finally returned after undergoing torture and then charged with a crime based on a 3-year-old traffic stop which was so disturbing to officers at that time that they took no action…until Garcia and his lawyers beat the government. Of course this is malicious prosecution. The judge knows it. Garcia’s lawyers know it, and yet it must move steadily on towards a conclusion.
Take Jonathan Ross. He’s a federal law enforcement officer. He shoots a woman in cold blood. It goes viral. DOJ says they’re not investigating because he has immunity and besides, his actions were ok anyway. So he gets away with it unless the state can find a way to bring charges, which isn’t very likely since the feds won’t let them investigate or have access to evidence.
Now, back to the wrongful dismissal. Do people who think this is honestly a viable option not see how this could be misused or even used towards the government’s advantage? Besides…. Both my parents were US. government employees. My dad for 35 years, not counting his military service, and my mother for 50 years. They have both told me many times since the DOGe firings, that if someone were wrongfully terminated for not doing what they were told, for doing it but expressing discontent or protest, or fighting in another way, this would not be mentioned in any letter of dismissal or review of termination meeting. Do you not think that the official reason would be something else? Look at all the folks Musk’s DOGE fired. They were fired for bad performance, even when many had been promoted. They were fired for bad performance even though many had positive performance reviews and work evaluations. It’s a similar tactic to the one people use when they want to discriminate. I am totally blind and use a guide dog who is a large male German Shepherd. Under US. federal law, specifically the Fair Housing Act, a landlord is not allowed to refuse to rent to someone because they need a service animal, or because the animal is considered a “vicious breed”. So when they deny your application to rent a property, they never say it’s because you have a big, bad ass German Shepherd, they say you don’t meet some other requirement. Sometimes, they fail to give a reason at all. This leaves the person in a difficult predicament. Fight them for the denial and win, but now they’re pissed off at you so they make your life hell, or go try and find somewhere else more accommodating. I’m going through this firsthand. I’ve been in a hotel since September because I have a German Shepherd guide dog who functions as my eyes, and people don’t want German Shepherds on their properties.
A wrongful dismissal suit against a private employer? They’d have a good chance of winning. Against the Trump administration? Not a chance in hell. Sorry if this is incoherent. I haven’t had my coffee yet.
Yes, and honestly, they can do more to fight this regime if they are not a part of it. And yeah, Trump has to be the champion of having the most incompetent lawyers of all time.
Stay and fight, and guarantee you’ll get fired. Yes, it’s a nice dream, a goal even, but not sustainable for a lot of people. And some people, myself amongst them, care more about principle, honesty and integrity than a job and a pension. Also, by quitting, there’s a lot more they can do to fight that they couldn’t do as employees of the US. Government.
Yep... Saoirse, you have a good point too. Okay, resist the best way you can. I'm sorry, I seemed so harsh. It's that too many incredible people are leaving important positions/jobs that are being filled with unqualified individuals or not at all. It's just time is not on Democracy's side.
We have heard or seen examples of government employees just saying to themselves, enough is enough and want to take a stand, you obviously cannot say that about those that work for Trump, for automatically, to work for him, you have to bend the knee to his every whim or your gone!
Stop paying federal taxes, starve the beast and it’s time to shut down the country! Stock up for the next several days and WALK OUT JAN 20! Risk your job or risk your life!
I feel PRETTY good knowing that Bunkerboy's - sorry, Steven Miller's - pets are SO grossly, comically incompetent that even Trumplican judges dismiss their cases immediately with disgust.
It feels good to laugh at the buck- naked Dear Leader waddling around chasing It's tail as We Americans clean up the broken gold-painted vases.
I am just happy that in Canada our system of justice does not allow for politicians to interfere or direct prosecutions or the courts or the police. The justice system in Canada and the courts is completely separate from the political process.
This used to be how the U. S. Government worked as well.
Yep, used to be!
Once upon a time in a time long ago in a land far away.
Our system has failed because of our spineless politicians and corrupt supreme court.
You forgot uninformed and apathetic voters.
I worked in a maintenance department and most of the guys at one time or another " nobody cares about that politics shit Jimmy " . said to me.
I may be moving there!!
Me too Christie!
Love Canada! 🇨🇦 Come to V.I. Every August! Fabulous place, wonderful people!🇨🇦🇺🇸🙋♀️

The US sunk because we allowed it.
We have the oldest constitution in the world.
It’s supposed to work that way here as well. Somehow, everybody is corrupt, and the president must be blackmailing most of them or they’re in the files ….because very few are willing to stand up to him… it’s totally not normal
Birds of a feather flock together.

It used to be that way here, too.
So was ours. Until it wasn't.
That’s the way it used to be here as well. “No one is above the law,” was what we were always told. Any country could get someone like trump to manipulate and/or control elections.
fight to keep your system, look what happened here we were set up like that.
Can I move with you? Just kidding! But I am jealous of your laws, especially with what is happening in my country!
Be careful!! We were too, once.
You're lucky so far.
Unfortunately the resignees will probably be replaced by Trump lackeys.
I understand why these people are resigning.
I only hope they are forming underground resistance groups among themselves and others.
Yes, because any new prosecutors appointed now will be on the wrong side of the law.
But surely on the right side of the orange thing.
I tend to agree with Sheryl Allen’s comment above.

Yup and this administration has plenty of scum to choose from. They ooze out of the federalist society.
Even though we all know it’s because trump wants them to lie, cheat or steal!!!🤬🤬🤬
Absolutely agree, well said!

THE PRESIDENT WITH ALZEHEIMER'S WAS BIDEN NOT TRUMP. TRUMP HAS DONE MORE FOR THIS COUNTRY IN THE LAST YEAR THAN BIDEN DID IN 4 YEARS.
Yep. They’re making sure any prosecutor with a conscience is gone so they can stack them with their own evildoers.
My exact thinking. Don't resign, fight!!!
Felt the same way with Biden.
The Trump DOJ (which ONLY serves one man, and to think the DOJ used to work on real crime) is full of criminals themselves! Agree with you but dictator isn't a strong enough term.

Yes, and honestly, they can do more to fight this regime if they are not a part of it. And yeah, Trump has to be the champion of having the most incompetent lawyers of all time.
Surely you can't mean ms. Habba or halligan much less Rudy . 😱
Stay and fight, and guarantee you’ll get fired. Yes, it’s a nice dream, a goal even, but not sustainable for a lot of people. And some people, myself amongst them, care more about principle, honesty and integrity than a job and a pension. Yep... Saoirse, you have a good point too. Okay, resist the best way you can. I'm sorry, I seemed so harsh. It's that too many incredible people are leaving important positions/jobs that are being filled with unqualified individuals or not at all. It's just time is not on Democracy's side.
No it's not.
You didn’t seem harsh and I agree with you. I just don’t see another way…but I’m open to suggestions and thoughts.
I wish I had something constructive to say but this is all so incredibly crazy that my mind is ping ponging around too many scenarios.
You're doing a great job, BTC ... keep putting the pressure on the madman in the White House.
