That’s all well and good but as with every other finding that goes against Trump, it all falls on deaf ears with no accountability. Talk is certainly cheap!

Richard Liu's avatar

In such cases it's impossible to make him do what he is supposed to, but quite possible to make him wish he had.

It's up to all of us to support independent media with our hearts and souls and pocketbooks. Think what it would be like (Putin's Russia for example) to live in the darkness of lies. "To abandon facts is to abandon freedom. If nothing is true, then no one can criticize power, because there is no basis upon which to do so. If nothing is true, then all is spectacle. The biggest wallet pays for the most blinding lights."(Timothy Snyder/ On Tyranny) Protest March 28 in huge numbers!!

LOOK HOW LONG THIS DECISION TOOK AND ALL OF THE NEWS that was no appropriately covered. Our justice system is toooooo ssslllllooooooowwww

Richard Liu's avatar

Justice is like mathematics. Rulings/theorems have to be got right, because they exist to be built upon.

Its actually f*cked up by this administration

I'm glad to see the courts finally putting this administration in its place. Freedom of the press has been a cornerstone of our country. Trump's fascist ideas need to be eliminated.

Dorothy's avatar

The lower Federal courts have been deciding against Trump all along, but he blatantly ignores court orders. There is no recourse for if a sitting President ignores court orders, as it has never happened until Trump happened. I'm sure this court order will be ignored too. This entire regime needs to be impeached and removed. Remember in November!

Irene Finn's avatar

I actually looked up the entity that is supposed to enforce court orders and found this at the Congress.gov website- this is verbatim what it states- my question is- why isn't this happening? It says the US Marshals are required by statute.

When a federal court imposes contempt sanctions, the U.S. Marshals Service enforces the order, including by arresting persons ordered imprisoned for contempt. The U.S. Marshals Service is an executive branch agency within the Department of Justice. Some commentators have expressed concerns that, if the executive branch chose to defy a court order, it might also seek to prevent the U.S. Marshals from enforcing contempt sanctions. The U.S. Marshals are required by statute to "execute all lawful writs, process, and orders issued under the authority of the United States." The 2018 review of contempt against the federal government notes that, historically, Presidents have complied with federal court orders and have not directed the U.S. Marshals not to enforce contempt orders. The President's pardon power applies to criminal contempt but does not apply to civil contempt sanctions.

RockyBoo's avatar

The key answer here is the Marshals report to the DOJ.

Who leads the DOJ and who does she report too?

Ash's avatar

Exactly. I just hope/pray that when the $$$ stops coming, they will still have enough guts to actually do their freaking job. They are supposed to serve their country, not one man. "The U.S. Marshals are required by statute to 'execute all lawful writs, process, and orders issued under the authority of the United States.'" *sighs*

They need to remember they are supposed to defend the CONSTITUTION from enemies both foreign AND /DOMESTIC/.

ALL OF THEM, STARTING WITH TRUMP NEED TO GO. THEY ARE DESTROYING OUR COUNTRY.

Agreed. They MUST GO NOW!!! Or be taken out.

Another win for the rule of law and the Constitution.

Sandy M. Clearo's avatar

Not a win one of the players who still plays by the rules is not a win.

Thats why I watch independent media because the mainstream media is under the thumb of Trump and he lies like he breathes and they just repeat it instead of fact checking him at every turn. I don't know whats wrong with MAGA, unless they are just not capable of looking up the truth and see he lies to them with every breath he takes. They are either blind or just stupid.

Deli Lanoux's avatar

I'm grateful for independent media, too!!! Very, very grateful. And Substack.

Dorothy's avatar

Those who support him are racist. That is why they refused to vote for the qualified candidate, a black woman.

Hegseth needs to be shutdown himself! But, when people like Hegseth are shutdown, they then sell how they are not allowed to execute free speech!? And yet, what do THEY DO!? The trouble is being entitled, unreasonable, irrational, non-sensical, you are challenged by others; and that is beyond their brain capacity! People like Hegseth do not belong in government and it seems the challenge is how to manage people like him to ensure Americans (including immigrants) remain safe!

james l gardner's avatar

But now what, will Hegseth comply or ignore, the Court

Judy Sherwood's avatar

Consequences? From whom?

james l gardner's avatar

That's what I would like to know

Deli Lanoux's avatar

Um, ye-AH. Exactly.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

They're claim they'll be appealing, and when they lose they'll undoubtedly take it to the Supreme Court.

Deli Lanoux's avatar

I don't dare hold my breath for the response.

Debbi Jackson's avatar

Long live the independent press!

Linda Harris's avatar

Edward R. Murrow also helped bring down McCarthy and Cohen. But, that was a time of real journalists in mainstream. The only real journalists today are those on independent sites.

Deli Lanoux's avatar

How right you are, Linda!!

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

It was Roy Cohn, and Murrow didn't take HIM down. Cohn continued as a successful (and unscrupulous) lawyer for many years thereafter before finally being disbarred in 1986.

Linda Harris's avatar

I meant he took down what they represented which was the red scare. Cohen could not longer use the red scare rhetoric.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Again, it was Cohn, not Cohen. And the "red scare" rhetoric has continued to this day. Not as effective as it once was, but MAGAts use "socialist" and "communist" as a go-to insult.

Linda Harris's avatar

Since trump and the magas are in bed with Putin (and don't even pretend that you do not know this) they are not using there terms at all. trump just lifted sanctions on Russia and they are actively helping Iran against the US in this war. Also, his 2 lackeys have been busy stabbing both Ukraine and Iran in the back. They actively took Russia's side.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Big clue here: Russia is not a Communist country and hasn't been for a number of years now. So the MAGAts can praise Putin AND denounce, say, Mamdani as a "Communist."

JoAnne's avatar

A while ago, trump posted this on “truth” social:

- terminate the Constitution (he suggested the "termination" of parts of the U.S. Constitution in response to his unsubstantiated claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election.)

- jail political opponents (has initiated investigations against them)

- terminate Roe vs Wade ✅

- execute generals who are not loyal ( he has publicly suggested that former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley deserved to be executed for acts he characterized as treason.)

- have mass internment camps for immigrants ✅

- take networks off air who are insufficiently loyal (has repeatedly suggested that broadcasters, specifically networks he deems "against" him or offering "negative coverage," should have their licenses revoked.)

- try network’s executives for treason (he has accused U.S. media organizations of committing "treason" for their reporting on the military conflict with Iran)

He’s working on the remaining “goals”. He recently had 2 journalists indicted on federal charges related to disrupting a religious service. This is an authoritarian, move - an "attack on the First Amendment," and an attempt to "criminalize journalism".

All these statements by trump has raised additional concerns among critics about press freedom and potential First Amendment implications, reinforcing fears of increasingly authoritarian tendencies.

Deli Lanoux's avatar

Yes, yes, yes, yes!!! You are so very right.

Dorothy's avatar

All of this is in Project 2025. The manifesto that Trump claims to have not known about.

JoAnne's avatar

Geez, are you surprised he lied?

Schmiegelow Michele's avatar

You forgot the implication of the main fact : concentration of media in the hands of 2 or 3 oligarchs bent on destroying our democracy and dictating what « the people » is allowed to think and say. WE ARE ALREADY IN A DICTATORSHIP (still in the authoritarian phase but beware !). The judiciary is resisting but unless their rulings are enforced and implemented, they are useless.

Madeline B's avatar

The bodies will return in droves ..Trump is very unwell ,and will pass away from natural causes allowing the world to rank our country 2nd or 3rd in ratings for decades. There are consequences who you give power to and now the piper is coming to take everything you worked hard for just to place in the trash ....and doesn't give a damn if you don't survive. You have not seen anything yet.

Deli Lanoux's avatar

Very sad indeed, especially the lost lives, many of them robbed of their youth.

Nita Uno's avatar

This entire “administration” is freaking bonkers, it’s trickle down stupidity.
