Why isn’t Musk arrested for buying an election?

JLeon Williams's avatar

Who can enforce it. So much of our democratic experiment requires people to believe in it and by doing so act appropriately for the common good. Musk operates on the common greed that he and his mobsters believe in.

Heather's avatar

I agree with you at the federal level - they aren’t enforcing shit. But you would think maybe at the state level?

Terri Seagull's avatar

That’s the question that needs addressed. If the charges are federal then the federal courts need to decide his fate. If at the state level it should be decided by the state courts. Why isn’t this happening? They deported the young man easily enough.

Micki 🩵🖇️'s avatar

Well, kidnapping by hoodlums is a done deal where the fuck is Newsom on this??

Micki 🩵🖇️'s avatar

I think the Democrats are struck dumb, which is fucked up

Karen Kaeli's avatar

The state should enforce it. It's clearly a case of bribery.

Kathy Box's avatar

I thought that is what citizens arrest and having guns was for.

Micki 🩵🖇️'s avatar

No, there must be guidelines set in place for who enforces what if not, then this is fucked up

Paula Haynes's avatar

We're losing the fight. I'm afraid we're at the point of a revolution. The only problem is most Democrats don't want to disturb others. Talking, negotiating, etc. doesn't work with the MAGA's. They're determined to take the USA to Authoritarian rule. It's nuts! Do all these people expect to have a seat in the boardroom just because they rooted for the Orange Grifter.

Terri Seagull's avatar

Well, then we are well and truly (ᗒᗣᗕ)՞up.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

All over the country, people are showing up to tell Musk/Trump to shove it.

Democracy is NOT a spectator sport.

Thanks for asking,Rose. I’ve been wondering how “they” get away with it.

Daniel H Laemmerhirt's avatar

It's an illegal African alien! Can We even arrest it?!?

Terri Seagull's avatar

Deport him to that Venezuelan jail with no recourse to come back here.

Micki 🩵🖇️'s avatar

It’s the El Salvadori in jail, big difference

Mike Huddleston's avatar

Even though he's an awful human being, I would encourage us to not use dehumanizing terms ("illegal alien" and "it") that are not appropriate for use with people we support, so shouldn't be okay to use for him. And I hate that I sound like I'm defending him, because I'm not. In general, I'm okay with piece of shit or POS. 😉

And Teryl, the jail is in El Salvador.

Annie D Stratton's avatar

Please refer to him as a white South African. It is more accurate. Yes, we can arrest him, and I fully expect that at some time it will happen. In the meantime, let's keep our heads and get involved with one of the many groups who are actively trying to preserve our democracy.

Patricia Burney's avatar

And we need to pull Citizens United back and beat it to death.

Mandy S. Twiny's avatar

Or for accessing private information of the citizenry. Or evading punishment by firing the departments and officials who are investigating his business dealings in and outside of our government. Or…or…or…

Michael Ethan Gold's avatar

The Wisconsin race is proof that there’s some level of electoral accountability left in our system…I’m only hoping that the MAGA right is too incompetent to fully corrupt our election infrastructure and stay in power forever.

Lynette Young's avatar

Because of Republicans passing “Citizens United”. We must get rid of that to prevent buying votes.

Karen Wellman's avatar

I agree, I’d like to know the answer to your question also!!

Lynette Young's avatar

Citizens United was pushed through by Republicans

Lucy Johnson's avatar

I, too, hope the A.G. of Wisconsin will charge Musk with a felony. IMO it is highly unlikely that there will be a referral to the DOJ, much less any federal charges will be made. Remember, Pam Bondi refuses to allow any charges to be brought for SignalGate, and that was far worse than Musk's bribery.

Mark's avatar

Because those who have the power to do something aren't. So much for our system of checks & balances. The founding fathers must be turning in their graves.

Annie D Stratton's avatar

Well, the question for you is: are you involved with one of the many groups who are working locally to resist (peacefully, because that is the only kind of resistance that works). If there isn't one, you can create one. Indivisible.org is set up to help guide you through the process. WE as individuals working together have a great deal of power. Please note that the people of Wisconsin just elected a Supreme Court justice over the guy that Musk was trying to buy votes for, and they did it by working together.

Mark's avatar

I am plagued with health issues right now but do what I can to financially support the organizations that are resisting Trump & Musk.

Rodney's avatar

I'm sure our Attorney General here in Wisconsin is looking into this matter; but as is all things it takes time, money and resources.

Jane Lane's avatar

Why aren't all of them, including trump, being arrested? Insider trading, totally ignoring court orders, etc etc

Micki 🩵🖇️'s avatar

Because that’s not part of the plan you’re thinking rationally which is your mistake there’s a plan it’s called project 2025 read all about it

Blujay's avatar

He’s not arrested because he bought the head of the FBI

Robin O.'s avatar

It was definitely a great win to have on the books. It shows that people care about democracy. It just needs to be amplified across 49 other states and DC to lock it in.

It's great that this time millions of votes were not able to be thrown out uncounted! (8+million votes tossed out & not counted nationwide last Nov....that we know of!)

The worst thing a wealthy person can be made aware of, is that the little guy, that's us, are the ones who make them their money.

Without our money Musk is nothing, the Kochs are nothing.

We can pull our money from their businesses, their Social Media platforms and their projects. We can see what losing Tesla stock feels like...

Schmendryck's avatar

Actually one of the few things that may be worse would be to remind a wealthy person, gently, that they are in fact going to die. Someday.

And I remember there was a flyer going around New York City back in the 80s and it basically suggested that whenever you crossed paths with a wealthy person, just gently and politely remind them that they were going to die.

My feeling is that it is time to go after Jeff Bezos and quit Amazon and Washington Post. He is ruining the WP and Amazon is bad in so many ways. What other companies does he own?

I have been following you for years. Right now, I can’t afford to donate since I am retired after a broken neck and shoulder. I am a former attorney and teacher - would love to assist you in any way possible. I admire your integrity, tenacity and curiosity— your ability to counter the felon and the muskrat evidences an understanding that $ cannot buy class, honesty or long lasting peace and power.

Thank you for your advocacy and dedication to the truth.

I agree he's pretty incredible!

Jaye Sors's avatar

Trump is rambling on and on and on. It is going to be so great. He’s going to fix all the problems of America like you never seen before people are going to bring money into the country

He blamed Joe Biden for the debt.

Apparently, if he hadn’t saved things, you would’ve had “no jobs in this country”. Apparently we got lucky.

Donald Trump Built a National Debt So Big (Even Before the Pandemic) That It'll Weigh Down the Economy for Years

by Allan Sloan, ProPublica, and Cezary Podkul for ProPublica, Jan. 14, 2021, 5 a.m. EST

The national debt has risen by almost $7.8 trillion during Trump's time in office.

Mike Huddleston's avatar

Right. Trump increased the national debt 33% in 4 years, from $24T to $32T. People lost their minds about Biden increasing it about $4T, but at least he was trying to do something with that increase, not just give it away to corps and the biggest campaign donors, ahem, I mean the wealthiest folks.

Jaye Sors's avatar

He finally got to tax cuts “the big tax cuts” He’s not gonna cut Medicare Medicaid or Social Security. If the Democrats got in they would’ve cut all of them because the country was heading for a crash. By the way, permanent tax cuts. One big bill if we get this past, it will be the most incredible bill ever passed by Congress I kept spending.

JLeon Williams's avatar

Kudos to all the patient and tough grassroots organizing to get this win! And at such a crucial time. We can’t go back!

celeste k.'s avatar

I've never considered the situation futile, just really difficult, not to mention disheartening.

The momentum is starting to change. Now, everyone needs to take to the streets (peacefully!) and push their representatives into action.

Protect the right to vote, help those who need it to register and obtain the proper ID to do so, and call your Senators and Representatives repeatedly and let them know YOU VOTE.

Lance Khrome's avatar

What also the WI show unequivocally is that the Elno brand is super-toxic, and the negativity of his very presence on campaign trails outweighs the tens of millions of dollars he easily can drop on any one election. Sure, he goes in front of CPAC, and everybody swoons, but get the cockbite in front of an actual cross-section of the voters, and he sucks like a Dyson.

Question is, will the WH toss him now, or use the face-saving "130-day" special appointment rule to ease him out next month? Whatever, he gone.

Francesca Cee's avatar

He may even be the cause for the loss. If he hadn't make himself the center figure in this election people might not have even noticed what was going on. But he opened his big mouth and the voters said no!

The three dots on the right-hand side of one's post are your friend...click on them and an <edit> option pops up, and allows one to correct spelling, etc.

The “Edit” option, is only there for you to use, on your own post. You can’t edit someone else’s. Otherwise, commenting would become useless, because people could change the whole context and meaning of your post.

Francesca Cee's avatar

I do not have the edit option.

So glad about Wisconsin. Musk needs to go, as everyone in the current administration. What the fat old man is doing is destroying democracy and trying to become a dictator.

Sunny Bradshaw's avatar

trying? Doing everything by Executive Orders IS being a dictator...(or in his case a "little dick-tater!")

I am a resident of northern Wisconsin. I went door to door for Susan Crawford and I will become more active in the days just ahead. All commentators on this win for a Progressive candidate mention abortion rights and other nationally important issues. What matters most to me is that the voters of Wisconsin stated via this election, that we want Wisconsin for Wisconsinites. We have a lot of rural poverty, drug problems and never ending issues with how we pay for public school education. We have pressing natural resource needs due to climate change and chronic wasting disease in deer. You need to understand just how bad the gerrymandering was in this state. It actually happens that a democratic candidate gets the most votes, and he is prevented by gerrymandering from being duly installed. We were the worst gerrymandered state in the union. Time and time again, when Wisconsinites are surveyed, they want public schools, not vouchers for private schools. They want repaired infrastructure. They want a host of progressive reforms. Heck we have elected a Democratic governor twice in recent years. The republican controlled legislature only wants to focus on national maga issues like immigration and nonexistent voter fraud, and then behave hatefully and punitively towards anyone who is progressive or liberal. they have treated the governor shamefully. I absolutely hated the interference of that Musk in our affairs, and I am so elated that it didn't work.

Forward! is our state motto, and boy are we gearing up to do just that. robyn tonkin
