Excellent summation, Brian. In addition to catchy, memorable and effective slogans, I believe we Democrats should retake American pride and patriotism from those who have subverted it. The MAGA cult and its leaders are disdainful of our country, spewing hate and bent on destroying it. I believe music is an effective way to get this across. I’m not talking about the fake patriotism of the Trump cult, but genuine expression. I believe this was demonstrated by Bon Iver at the Harris/Walz Eau Claire, Wisconsin, rally. Just look at the reaction of the crowd when they sang “The Battlecry of Freedom.” As VP Harris stated “We love our country.” Our music can convey that. Here’s another thought. Many years ago, Woody Guthrie wrote a song that was his reaction to Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America” which he couldn’t stand. What resulted was a song that would express our love of country in this era: “This land is your land.” Never underestimate the power of song.
I’m so happy that Harris and Walz are on our Democratic ticket! The two of them are making impressive strides! I think we have a huge advantage over Trump and his MAGAS.
