The Democrats NEED TO BE AGRESSIVE AND SPOT ON !

Judy Croft Barkume's avatar

I hope they are currently writing legislation that can reverse republinazis horrible big bill and all the other nonsense they passed now. And just like Trump, a pile of executive orders undoing his garbage so it can be done swiftly and precisely.

John Chastain's avatar

...and rip all the tacky bling out of the White House, nix the bizarre "triumphal arch," and repair the Kennedy Center.

Adina's avatar

I agree that these terrible affronts to the historical significance have to be repaired at the White House, but even more important is reversing the Civil Rights ground we have lost, placing rigorous checks an balances around executive power, regulating pardon power, re-thinking the Electoral College, place term limits on The Supreme Court and congress, reinstating and strengthening the anti-segregation laws Trump turned backwards, reestablishing DEI initiatives, reinstating abortion rights laws, medical and scientific research grants and soft power initiatives like USAID to reverse some of the damage Trump has caused to the world in America's name. Rebuilding could take decades.

Mehdididit's avatar

Don’t forget rebuilding the DOJ. It could take generations to restore the credibility of that institution.

John Chastain's avatar

Agree, we need to fix the substantive damage, but when we're done, let's not forget the "outward and visible signs of inward and nazified rot."

Neil Ashton's avatar

Term limits for SCOTUS absolutely (and all of congress) but also age limits. I know we are living longer and some folks function well into their 90's and beyond but both Biden and Trump are showing the limitations (and in Trump case dangers) of diminished capacity.

Mona Ross's avatar

There is some difficulty with revising and imposing term limits for Congress. Someone wrote a good article about that recently. Otherwise, I agree with you. The tacky bling is disgustingly offensive, but voting rights for all citizens has to be one of the top priorities, along with restoring and enforcing the rule of law, civil rights, and the checks and balances system.

White horses's avatar

Both parties are tearing America apart

because most members want praise for their egos and for some reason are poor listeners. Oh, I guess they’re the same thing.

James Byham's avatar

Swiftly and precisely. Exactly we can't fool around with rules, norms and procedural rigmarole the 4th Reich sure as hell doesn't bother with that stuff. 👍

Paul McElveen's avatar

THEY DAMN WELL BETTER!

Linda Harris's avatar

The democrats need to stop taking AIPAC money and spending their time helping Israel. They need to remember that they took an oath to the Constitution and thus to their constituents. (I know Schumer and Jeffires are funded by AIPAC but there are others.)

Susan Ayres's avatar

Change the rules on how much money Candidates can accept when campaigning and then they are all on a level playing field. Money has always been the route of all evil for most people. I would love to see a billionaire who has empathy and donates to people in need.

Debbie Green's avatar

neither side ever did that ............. it is called CITIZEN UNITED and it has to go

Penny Pawl's avatar

It seems to me that DJT likes Israel too. could it be because of his son in law. I don't know but I would have cut them off a long time ago money wise.

Linda Harris's avatar

Oh yes, kushner is very tight with Netanyahu and has been for some time now. Jared has been around his FIL long enough to know how to get him to react and I am sure he told Bibi what he needed to do to get trump on board (after 3 presidents told him no) to go to war with Iran.

Reach across the aisle and what do you get? Your hand slapped

Dale Rowett AR OK VA PA NY's avatar

That's if you're lucky. More likely, your hand will be severed from your wrist.

Debra's avatar

They only have to reach across the aisle when 100 million people decide to stay home and sit on their couch. You have to give them the power by coming out and voting for them..

James Byham's avatar

A lot worse than that but these are family friendly comments. 😁

PLawson85's avatar

Nobody is saying “Compromise”. They’re saying “Reaching across the Voter aisle”.

Larry Bushard's avatar

There never was a way to “compromise” with republicans but Newt Gin-Grinch signed the desth certificate with his so-called Contract with America. Until now, most Democrats did not understand that fact. In 1932, it took an FDR to break the oligarchs’ stranglehold on the country. We need a modern day FDR to take our country back from the marauders who are destroying our country every day!

PLawson85's avatar

FDR was Eugenicist, Racist, Ignored Anti Lynching bills and Excluded Black Americans from the New Deal.

It’s clear to me that Most Leftists have done absolutely Zero research on FDR’s ACTUAL policies at all. And are clouded by Partisanship.

We don’t Need another FDR. That man Held Black Americans like myself back and treated Asian Americans like how ICE treats immigrants.

We need another Clinton. So that our Economy can PROSPER again the way that it did.

Linda Harris's avatar

His wife, on the other hand, was a strong proponent of black rights and women's rights. She is more of who we need now.

William Clodius's avatar

He also desegregated the civil service.

That was actually a contract ON America.

Republicans will say what ever they think they have to say to say just the opposite of what they said before. Examples: Remember when every single Republican carried around a copy of the U.S. Constitution and lectured everyone about what was in it, NOW they are ALL ready to IGNORE it and THROW it ALL OUT in their worship of their Orange God/Golden Idol, Republicans howled to high heaven about "local control" and NOW they are OVER TURNING local law after local law that gets in their way, On the Supremely Corrupt Court - Republicans FIRST said we have to wait for the election and THEN they said we have to act now, Republicans bitched and bitched about "government" as the problem and NOW they are using their Corrupt (Project 2025) government to stick it to the American people and the rest of the world, Republicans everywhere in America are whining about "fraud" ALL THE WHILE IGNORING the fraud in the "government" of their Orange God/Golden Idol, Republicans say we must reduce taxes and cut taxes when what they REALLY mean is Cut Taxes and Give Massive Tax Breaks to BILLIONAIRES and CUT and GUT services to their OWN CONSTITUENTS........and on and on and on........ A solution - make everyone of these politicians answer for the damage they have done and do not let any of them escape (Republican or Democrat). And vote in people who will stop SCREWING the people of America!!!

Michael's avatar

I agree with you, but they (politicians) on both sides are corrupted by $$$. If we get $$$ out of Congress and the White House it would serve Americans instead of serving corporations and oligarchs.

Murray Smart's avatar

Yes, Too much money, in too few hands, with too much power, that is doing too much damage, with little no consequences, except for the major damage it is doing to the rest of us is a major problem in America across the board. That is why I am encouraging people to read "Burned By Billionaires: How Concentrated Wealth and Power are Ruining Our Lives and Planet" by Chuck Collins for an up close and personal look at how we all are being affected and NOT in a good way.

Dianne Needles's avatar

Citizens United gone and electoral college overturned and gone would completely change our elections to be more fair. Other Democratic nations have one person equals one vote. None of this six or seven states have to be focused on because those votes are so much more important than my vote in a Democratic state— because moneywise millions and billions of dark money go into those swing states and it’s truly insane and it makes it easier for either party to cheat because they focus on The vote statistics and the data processing in those states like what Elon Musk did last election sending data from his Starlink satellites. Somehow Pennsylvania, mail and ballots were not counted and they called that state election early when normally it takes a week or two to get those votes counted of mail and ballots. Fishy to the max.

Katherine's avatar

Historically, the US has not been stellar in the accountability arena, including after the CivilWar, IMO. Congress has a job to do, but they should be held accountable by the constituents who gave them the power to speak for them. The people must retain this power by being knowledgeable and by making informed votes.

We need to overturn citizens united, an awful SCOTUS decision that took away the voice of the people. We need to have stricter campaign finance rules, and perhaps publicly funded elections to deter dark money. There is so much reformation to do, and quickly! There must be ethics codes for all elected and appointed officials that have procedures for holding them accountable. They take an oath, and it must mean something. I have lots to say on reforming our country, and I hope we will work with our favorite organization’s so our best ideas are put forward! The most transformative will need to begin as soon as we have the majority.

Ivelisse Blanco's avatar

Let’s see if these candidates stay on course.

So tired of Dems doing a 180.

Paul McElveen's avatar

DAMN THAT SHIT Donald J. Trump and all of the MAGA SHIT Trump Republicans! The Republican Party is RUINED! STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES!

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Yes, I agree. 99% of the time the GOPhers are acting in bad faith. I would add that we still have to *listen* to them to catch those times when they're not. Massie on the Trump-Epstein files. Rand Paul on war powers.

Americans pretend they favor bipartisanship although they rarely if ever reward it. But when a REAL opportunity arises, we'd be wrong not to take it.

PLawson85's avatar

The 1994 Midterm elections marked the End of Bipartisanship.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

I wouldn't argue with you on that. Gingrich's Contract on America was a turning point... for the worse.

PLawson85's avatar

Exactly. When the Neo Cons roared into power in ‘94, their agenda was 100% “Take Down the Clintons by any means necessary” and the Only thing they worked with on WJB was the Budget while consolidating power they had gained in States like Texas, Remapping, Gerrymandering and turning everything Redder, while Newt and his Clowns kept looking for Hail Marys and Whatever they could find to Impeach WJB. When Dubhya was shooed in by the Supreme Court, The Main Agenda of the Neocons was to Fulfill the Wishes of Grover Norquist, so they Rewrote the Entire Tax Code with the Supermajority and fixed it to Hand it off to the Elites and New World Order Globalists. When Democrats finally came back in power in 2006, They tried to fix things but Dubhya kept vetoing EVERYTHING and doubled down hard on his Iraq War which had grown to become hated, Dubhya Signed Nothing and Refused to work with Democrats on Anything. When They got back the Supermajority With President Obama, what happened? They put Everything they had into signing a Comprehensive Healthcare Reform, but to the Far Left “It didn’t go far enough” so they acted ungrateful and like misers and stayed home in 2010 letting the Tea Party take over. And when the Tea Party came in? It was “No” to EVERYTHING and The famous quote from McTurtle “Our Agenda is to make Obama a one term President”. 2014 was even Worse. Democrats lost the Senate and Alt Right folks started looking for Scandals to Impeach President Obama but were unable to find ANYTHING. They were empty handed and couldn’t find anything.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

I mostly agree but Obama and the DNC share a lot of the blame for not campaigning in 2010 like their lives depended on it. It put Republicans in control of too many state legislatures which proceeded to use that year's census to gerrymander.

On Obamacare, the Democrats caved in to the despicable Joe Lieberman who would not even agree to a "public option" which was the way to go.

PLawson85's avatar

Lieberman was the John Fetterman of his time. When you don’t have a Filibuster Proof Senate majority, it’s a Cakewalk to get full Partisan legislation through.

Regarding 2010, the Democrats did Not unite behind President Obama. They basically left him hung out to dry. They RAN away from Obamacare. Didn’t even try selling it to voters.

It’s the Same thing that Happened to Reagan in 1982, his Own Party left him out in the cold, Giving Democrats an even larger Congressional majority. Then in 1986, the Six year itch gave the Senate back over to Democrats.

Judy Croft Barkume's avatar

Hopefully when the Dems take control in November they will stop bickering among themselves too. So much time and effort wasted infighting. They will bend themselves backwards to compromise with republinazis but not each other. I’ve never understood that.

Elijah’s Shadow's avatar

💯. I’m glad to see someone point out the elephant in the room. I’d wish that Dem’s would have this much fervor when fighting for the American people against Republicans than they do when fighting each out.

KS's avatar

I want to see a comprehensive plan from Democrats on how they will fix this country. Then they need to talk about it on repeat. Brag about their successes. Without this any victory they get this year will be short lived. Americans have short memories and shorter attention spans and will want to see changes right away.

Karen O’Quinn's avatar

Yes you’re right! Dems need a 2026 playbook and must create opportunities to speak out about it every chance they get. Without a plan, we’re dead in the water.

KS's avatar

All they need to do is take Project 2025 and do the exact opposite. Be aggressive about it.

PLawson85's avatar

In 1975, the Democrats squandered their proposals with their heavy majorities and Filibuster Proof Senate. They Doubled Down on Keynesian Policies and did not have a solution to solve Stagflation.

In 2007, They Tried Very Hard to reverse Duhbya’s Horrendous tax cuts and Tried to stop his Outsourcing and tried Raising the Minimum Wage which he had Froze several times, but the Insipid Monkey Had multiple tantrums and Vetoed Everything.

In 2027, the Democrats are going to be Back to where they were in 1975. They’re gonna have a 78 Seat House Majority and Full Filibuster Proof Senate. In my view, they need to Rewrite the ENTIRE Tax Code, Restore Clinton’s 1993 Tax Incentives, RAISE Taxes on the Rich and uber wealthy , Eliminate all of the Horrendous Tax Code Policies passed by Duhbya and the Neo Cons 25 years ago, Restore the Capital Gains Tax of the mid 80s, and Lower the Middle Class Tax Bracket from 47%(From where Duhbya ROSE it) to 32%-30% where it ACTUALLY was during Reagan,Bush Sr and Clinton.

Eve Ujhelyi's avatar

Thanks Brian, for telling a wide audience what I have been screaming in my head for many years,(a centrist Dem is a Republican from the past, no thanks)

PLawson85's avatar

I’ve voted Democratic for every Presidential candidate since 2004, thank you.

I’m a Blue Dog. It’s Who I am and you’re not going to conform me to anything else or other CLIs like me. I’m Against this Iran War the SAME way I was Vehemently Against the Iraq War from day one back in 2003.

I’m one of those Rare Conservatives who has absolutely Nothing but Destain and utter HATRED for George W Bush and I blame HIM and his Administration for getting us here and bringing us The Trump Regime.

Richard Kiefer's avatar

Yep, Ronald Raegan enabled Geo W, and Geo W enabled Trump; unlike the great Sir Isaac Newton, who claimed to have "stood on the shoulders of giants" to develop his scientific concepts, Reagan and Bush thrived in the pockets of greed and corporatism to advance their political careers.

PLawson85's avatar

Reagan was the Right President for the 80s and eliminated the Keynesian System which had put so many minorities at the short end of Stick. For 50 years, The Keynesian System had held minorities back. Had kept them underpaid, underemployment, underrepresented and Codependent on Welfare While White Liberals got Rich and went to College. Ignoring everyone else. Supply Side Economics was the way forward. It was the Future.

He certainly would have never taken the Oval Office had the Democrats Not Screwed up during the 70s. You have to admit how Royalty Dems screwed up after taking Filibuster Proof Senate Majorities in 1975. All they Had to do was solve the Stagflation and Prevent Another Oil Embargo, and they couldn’t even do that. To add insult to injury, they allowed ANOTHER Oil Embargo to occur right on Carter’s Watch and acted like chickens with their feathers tied in a knot during the Iran Hostage situation. Carter coulda Won reelection easily, but he was already doomed before the Primaries even started in 1980.

As for Mondale, I’m Not really why there’s folks who STILL believe he had an Inkling of a chance in 1984. It takes a special kind of delusion for anyone to believe that. He was a Wash candidate. Pure and simple. An Easy to beat Presidential Incumbent Challenger.

And Nope, Reagan didn’t bring us Duhbya. He Brought us WJB. He screwed his own Vice President with his 1988 budgets and ironically helped Arkansas Governor WJB win the Presidency just 4 years later. Duhbya came into power due to a Corrupt Government run by Neocons. He did NOT win the 2000 Election legitimately. It was fixed. The Supreme Court put him in office.

Unidirectional compromise is called capitulation

C. S.'s avatar

Republicans want total control in order to take as much as they can. Make All Greed Acceptable. Progressives want to make society work for all people, provide opportunities, help those in need. Literacy and education to enlighten and advance. Republicans on the other hand demand ignorance and loyalty through lies, deception and hatred to keep people separate, and fighting each other so they can profit. They will not compromise because it impacts their bottom line.

Ford Regina's avatar

Exactly. I wish we’d rename the Democratic party to the Progressive’s. The Dem party bends to meet the GOP. We have to stop doing that. Look where it got us. Help the needy, but do not help corporations with tax breaks. We have to get rid of people that have been there forever for people that will actually help the citizen’s.

Mehdididit's avatar

Yes, we have corporate Dems and Progressive Democratic Socialists. We need to start replacing the former with the latter. Most importantly, power has to be taken from MAGA republicans. I’m hearing too many people saying they won’t vote for a corporate Dem, that they’ll write in or just sit the election out (again). Short sighted to say the least, and a mentality that got us here in the first place. Sometimes you have to hold your nose and vote for the forest in spite of the tree. Even Fetterman, as despicable as he is, serves a purpose as a number on the democratic side.

Elijah’s Shadow's avatar

I agree. In order to restore normalcy to our country, we need to restore Dem’s to the majority and in order to do that, we have to treat elections like a numbers game, which is what Republicans have been doing. So, in that respect, I understand your reasoning for keeping Dem’s like Fetterman in play, despite his voting record. Because having more pawn on the board in chess, gives you better odds of winning. Now, if afterwards, a progressive decided to run against him during his reelection…..

Mehdididit's avatar

Absolutely! He needs to go ASAP. It just has to be a real Democrat.

John Michael's avatar

Chuck Schumer should be primaried in Nov if we’re planning on moving forward. I WILL NOT vote for anyone that’s supports AIPAC or Israel…..full stop!

I’m not the only one who feels that way believe me.

Mehdididit's avatar

I think they’re starting to figure that out. That said, I will vote for a candidate I don’t believe in or agree with if it means shifting power away from MAGA and Pumpkin Pinochet. I don’t think the Palestinians ( or now the Lebanese) are better off because of the “conscious voters” who refused to vote for Harris.

Lady Emsworth's avatar

"Compromise is not part of their vocabulary." "One side treats the rules as unbreakable. The other treats them as tools that can be bent to their will."

I think the Iranians have worked that out. . .

Elizabeth Fenlon's avatar

Yes, Mr. Cohen, you have it exactly right. Compromising with republicans is absolutely a fool’s errand. And will only harm Democrats. We must not go to the middle to win the fictional Republican vote. That’s a mirage. If I never hear another centrist Democrat say we need to be more like the gop, I’ll be happy. Because that is the exact wrong thing to do. We need more Mamdani, AOC, Jasmine Crockett, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren, and no more Schumer or Pelosi. Or for gods sake no more Fetterman. What a turncoat he turned out to be.

Parkerj50's avatar

💯 Democrats need to stop acting like they’re two wings on the same bird as republicans. Spineless neoliberalism and virtue signalling ain’t it. Both sides serve USA imperialism, capitalism and oligarchy. Democrats need to serve the bottom.

John Michael's avatar

Democrats have been bending over and taking it for decades! They are useless.
