That is our job of nonviolent citizen protest and turning out prodemocracy voters.

I get what you’re saying because I lived through the 60s demonstrations. But huge demonstrations need to happen now, not in November. There need to be huge marches with well known public figures. MLK is no longer around and someone who can apply pressure to Trump needs to be leading the marches. MLK used to head the marches and then call JFK and LBJ on the phone.

Absolutely, demonstrations are what we can do now - and work on voter turn out in every election through November. I demonstrated in the 1960s and did voter outreach. I’m demonstrating this afternoon because my local Indivisible chapter called a protest.

Kate, we will not have elections in November. Trump is making sure to stop them. We need huge protests and we need to protest in Washington. We need a leader to help us. We need honorable military leaders who value the Constitution and are sworn to protect the American people not a deranged lunatic.

I can understand why a lot of people feel that way. However if you really go down that road, you have obeyed in advance to the authoritarian playbook of creating despair and ultimate surrender to fascism. It is just what Trump Bannon, Miller and friends are hoping for. I hope you will reconsider.

Indeed, you hit the proverbial nail, they seek to overwhelm, what Bannon said, is the many plans to deconstruct the administrative state, so people give in and give up, however, they can only rob the peoples power if you let them, so persistence must be maintained, or the U.S democracy and all our rights will be gone!

If you live in a red state you have the unique power (and I dare say responsibility) to call your elected Republican representatives in Washington and let them know how you feel! They need to hear from you. It’s very easy to do. You don’t have to talk for more than a minute or so, simply register your opinion. Here’s the Capitol switchboard number (202) 224-3121

Our supposed representatives have been rotted by the same oligarchs that support this campaign and the demise and destruction of democracy. What can we do?? As you can probably tell I’m more than a little frustrated like all of you!

Our founding fathers were outsmarted.

They were outmaneuvered entirely by “the group of five," our five horsemen of the apocalypse.

Our five horsemen are:

1) Project 2025: The Arm of the Billionaires. It started in 1971 with the founding of the Heritage Foundation by Joseph Coors, the beer magnate, and later by Richard Mellon Scaife, the heir to the Mellon fortune. In 1980, they issued a mandate that Ronald Reagan used as the basis for Reaganomics, which was carried out under George H. W. Bush during Operation Desert Storm. During Clinton's presidency, they opposed Clinton's health plan. They also helped fund and launch the Tea Party Movement in 2009.

2.)Our unhinged president. I believe Trump is sociopathic, possibly a psychopath with narcissistic personality disorder. His instability will likely worsen over time, and he may self-destruct within the next six months. He has no restraints and will continue erupting.

3.) Our non-functioning Congress. The Congress was supposed to serve as a governing body overseeing the president and the judicial branch. However, our Congress has been completely usurped and nullified by Trump. They are not effective and provide no oversight or control over the executive or judicial branches.

4.) ) Bondi and Blanche's control over the DOJ. I thought they were the most vulnerable, but then I realized that Trump could fire them or, if they were convicted of a crime, he could pardon them.

5.) The Supreme Court and its six unthinking judges: they have granted Trump unlimited protection from any criminal conviction, and they have allowed billionaires to influence our voting by supporting candidates who favor their business interests with massive investments.

• Critical to our present condition is the cowardliness of our democratic governors; they are living with the fact that forces are roaming our streets, capturing our citizens, and removing them from our country.

The situation in the country is alarming. What these governors are doing is criminal and unforgivable, and they are allowing these crimes to continue in their states. We have defined laws regarding the arrest of a person, a person's rights in court, and the requirement of a fair and just trial. None of these are happening in our country, and these governors hope a correction will occur so they will not have to do anything. Crimes are being committed and tolerated by governors.

The 57 men who attended the Continental Congress in 1779 represented 13 states with a population of 2,998,000 and an area of 326,087 square miles. They could never have imagined that, 250 years later, our population would reach 332 million people, an increase of 1,1074%, within a country that expanded to 3.8 million square miles, a growth in size of 1,165%. I think that if they had imagined our country's future development, they would have suggested a different form of government.

And this is where we stand today. To build a system that allows different parts of our country to coexist peacefully, we must think creatively. We can't rely on their framework, which we have expanded far beyond their imagination. We have the task of thinking outside the box, of rethinking our country's format, and of accepting the reality of our country's distant parts that have never wanted to be part of a unified country. This is our reality, and we have the task of rethinking who we are and where we go from here.

I disagree with you on one point. States and their Governors are fighting back. California alone has brought more than 120 lawsuits against the fed and won two thirds, and that is as of March '25. It may seem slow and it doesn't get much press but people are fighting back.

Expand full comment
ROCCO CIRIGLIANO PhD's avatar

Unfortunately, lawsuits will not stop the erosion of our democracy. The states have to become more adversarial and start acting like sovereign states; they have enormous power. Remember, it was the states thatformed the new government

You have captured the 5 horsemen of current times very well. That they intersect with late stage capitalism, highly developed propaganda psychology science, and the sloppy, still inaccurate, beginning stages of AI technology, is a perfect recipe for destruction. Oh to imagine something new, such as the creative coexistence you refer to. Self-determination of peoples. Humans can be phenomenal innovators and achieve great advancements when given the freedom to be their best selves.

I feel the same way, but unfortunately our words have no effect on them. My landlady, a Trump loyalist, still believes in him and endorses his lunacy from deranged acts to false rhetoric. What galls me is that an older adult female with knowledge of his abuse of women (beyond his pageant days) could even think of voting for him even once. And yet, she claims she is a good Christian (how do you endorse abuse of women or defrauding others?). She swears by the Biden Burisma lie even though one of the masterminds pleaded guilty to lying and is in prison. She bought into the MTG climate change as being politically caused by Democrats like they were sending planes up to seed the clouds. This is a seriously sick mind. I have to avoid any discussion of politics. I'm actively looking for another place to live but housing is scarce whether it's rental or for purchase. Affordable housing is altogether ignored as an urgent need and I fear we're going to face more shortages whether it's common goods or groceries. The rich can buy whatever they want and will never feel the full impact of what they've done to others. I'm trying hard to be optimistic but I'm treading on some real fragile eggshells here for basic survival

HIS America, is that ballroom, and those who will dance in it. Nothing living outside of that ballroom matters one whit to him.

Sandra's avatar

And he cares about the underground data centre he is building with his enhanced bunker under the ballroom. That new military architect doesn't have any history as a ballroom designer. Trump and his people are definitely planning on staying. Funny how his delusions let him think that, even with cankles and dementia monitoring cognitive tests, he will live to be 100.

Expand full comment
Scott Gilbert's avatar

Data Center? I don't see that. There isn't the infrastructure to the building and constructing it would be REALLY obvious, considering the demands for power and water, I would think.

Expand full comment
Sandra's avatar

A few underground data centres around the world are already built in converted nuclear bunkers. An oversized ballroom that dwarfs surrounding buildings does not have to hide construction materials. The American military is pretty adept at getting large volumes of disguised materials into some hard to get at places without the public knowing, when it comes to things that might identify the true intent. I understand that there are some current upgrade projects of electrical and water stations going on in DC. Maybe not specific to ballroom project but it is not unusual to anticipate increased future requirements during the life of an infrastructure project, especially if it is in a region with national security implications. With the increased data needs of a government intent on illegally gathering voter and health data (remember the autism registry suggestion)on everyone, and the desire to shield data of past indiscretions, I cannot imagine them not building one. A country that attacks other countries indiscriminately for resources or kidnapping key figures can assume that someone at some time will direct violence back at them. It only stands to reason that they will protect themselves and the data and keep it with them.

Expand full comment
Sandra's avatar

Donors aren't paying for a lavish ballroom. The ballrooms of the world are where they party already. They would pay for a safe, beyond belief, personal space, with secure data capacity though, in the event of a...oh, I don't know....not exactly a weather event.
